The Aussie With A Tail

My name is Kiva. My moms call me Kiva the Diva! I don’t mind being called a Diva, I actually think it is kind of funny. I am a blue merle Australian Shepherd and I have a tail.

None of my brothers and sisters have a tail (and believe me I have a lot of them), so I always feel different then them. 🥲 They tease me and say that Aussies aren’t supposed to have tails!

So I asked my Momma why I had a tail when nobody else has one? And she said, “let me tell you a story dear Kiva…“

So what my Mom said surprised me because I am a big, strong girl! She said I was born very weak and she had to save me. I couldn’t crawl or anything and had to be bottle fed for several weeks every 2 hours around the clock.

Then she explained that Australian Shepherds can be born with a natural bob tail or a long tail. And those that are long have to be docked to be considered correct for the AKC breed standard for Aussies.

That was a whole lot, and I didn’t really understand it all. But what I did understand was that because I was so small and weak I didn’t have to go to the doctor when I was a baby to get my tail removed. They thought I was going to die apparently.

And then my Momma said to me, “Kiva the Diva, I love your tail and you are beautiful just the way you are. ❤️

That made me start wagging my tail at my Momma, and snuggling in just a little bit closer. I am Kiva the Diva, and I love my tail!
